Master Study: Examining the association between board characteristics, ownership structure and performance

The association between different corporate governance an firm performance is the focus of multidisciplinary research for more than two decades

The purpose of this research is to test the relationship between the characteristics of the Board of directors, the structure of ownership and the performance of companies. The authority of the Board of directors and the dual roles were used to express the characteristics of the Board of directors. It also used the government ownership, the administrative ownership, the institutional ownership and the centrality of the ownership on expressing the ownership structure. The results of the research indicate that there is a positive correlation between the authority of the Board of directors, the government ownership and the performance of companies. The results also indicates that there is an inverse correlation between the two roles and the performance of the companies. This means that the companies with a large Board of directors and high government ownership perform well compared to the companies with a small Board of directors and low governmental ownership..
